Integrating Attention and Categorization Behaviors in Robotics
نویسندگان
چکیده
This work presents an active vision system for control tasks involving attention and pattern categorization based on visual sensory information. The system is currently implemented in a robot consisting of an articulated stereo-head with four degrees of freedom (pan, tilt, left and right verge). As a practical result, the robot is able to analyze all regions of its environment, selected according to salience maps. This involves performing attentional shifts and an eecient feature extraction and pattern recognition. Also the system incrementally construct an attentional map, and keep the map consistent with a current perception of the environment. Experimental result shows succesful applications in inspection, monitoring, or surveillance tasks.

Embodying Cognitive Abilities: Categorization
In previous woks we have introduced a distributed neural architecture for the generation of complex behaviors in evolutionary robotics. In this paper we show how this architecture is able to create its own categories about the sensed world of a robot by direct interaction of the body with the environment. The distributed elements of the architecture cooperate to express the categories on an inn...
متن کاملSpine as an engine: effect of spine morphology on spine-driven quadruped locomotion
In quadruped animals, spinal movements contribute to locomotion in terms of controlling body posture and integrating limb and trunk actions. In this paper, we develop quadruped models with different numbers of spinal joints to demonstrate the spine-driven locomotion. Actuated spinal joint(s) are exclusively employed to these models with a minimalistic control strategy. We choose some typical in...

| Oculomotor control in a humanoid robot faces similar problems as biological oculomotor systems, i.e., capturing targets accurately on a very narrow fovea, dealing with large delays in the control system, the stabilization of gaze in face of unknown perturbations of the body, selective attention, and the complexity of stereo vision. In this paper, we suggest control circuits to realize three o...
متن کاملA Cognitive Approach to Classifying Perceived Behaviors
This paper describes our work on integrating distributed, concurrent control in a cognitive architecture, and using it to classify perceived behaviors. We are implementing the Robot Schemas (RS) language in Soar. RS is a CSP-type programming language for robotics that controls a hierarchy of concurrently executing schemas. The behavior of every RS schema is defined using port automata. This pro...
